... I'm exploring.
Out of curiosity, I went to have a look at the new Explore LJ feature.

In the 'Entertainment' section, I came upon this entry with NC-17 Nintendo fanfic recs. (I should have known better, but I really wasn't expecting explicit Link/Zelda action, oh my.)
In the 'Technology' section, I found Snape/Hermione fic and was linked to [livejournal.com profile] slashyhomemaker. (I have no idea what was so 'technical' about these entries.)
In the 'Music' section, I was linked to a Silent Hill fanfic community. (References to song lyrics.)
In the 'Life' section, I was linked to [livejournal.com profile] proanorexic.
In the 'Culture' section, I was linked to [livejournal.com profile] anorexicqueen. (Well, it is a cultural phenomenon...)
In the 'Politics' section, I was linked to an icon challenge community. ('Vote', 'poll' - that's what comes from having a machine do the sorting.)

What does that tell us?

1) Automatic content analysis sucks.
2) The categories are vague to begin with.
3) Fandom is everywhere!!!
4) LJ doesn't really know what they're doing, unless they want more people to become aware of (explicit) fanfic.
5) This feature is stupid and might lead to a series of hysterical flagging.

Oh and, I was logged out, so any kind of adult filters etc. should have been in place. Hmm.....

Now, it's obviously true that every public post is, well, public, but that doesn't mean everyone wants their journal entries to be stamped with a bland label and proudly presented as 'user-generated content' in some sort of random news aggregator. For me, context is everything.
I've opted out.
