So I finally started reading Susan Cooper's
The Dark Is Rising series (thanks,
spes_unica!) and now
this (Cooper fans - you might want to sit down and take a deep breath if you haven't heard about this yet):
An upcoming film version manages to do EVERYTHING wrong and fans of the books are not amused. On top of that, the guys at FanLib (remember them?), still deluding themselves that the majority of fan fiction writers are teenage boys, are jumping the bandwagon with a writing contest based on the trailer/movie (although you
are allowed to reference the books as well...). Read more
here (with additional links) on
life_wo_fanlib - if you dare.
Oh, and naming the film
The Seeker (a term central to the occult tradition) while editing out the source text's paganism is such an obvious and hypocritical attempt at luring in 'the Harry Potter crowd' (I guess that's the term those marketing people would use) it's just pathetic. *goes back to reading*

Date: 2007-10-07 11:30 am (UTC)And can I even keep this Ian McShane icon after reading what the man said??? I think NOT!!!
(I never thought much of him, but this really cannot be countenanced...)
Damn damn damn. And a multitude of worse epithets.
I don't even want to go into the FanLib side of it.
*huggles Susan Cooper*
OMG, and providing a het love interest for Will, for pity's sake - those books are mildly slashy if anything, and if there's any het it's Bran/Jane in Book 5, NOTHING else!!!
*is stricken*
This could have been great, you know. Terrific. If, say, someone as fannish as Peter Jackson had done it.
Fuckfuckfuck.
